Marsabit Governor

Isiolo Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya has accused external political players, including Marsabit Governor Ali Mohamud Mohamed and officials affiliated with the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party, of orchestrating unrest in the county and interfering with local governance.

The Woman Rep claimed that chaos in the county is being “sponsored” by Governor Mohamed, whom she accused of having undisclosed interests in Isiolo affairs.

“I know what his interest is in Isiolo. He is still involved today, sponsoring chaos in our county. He must come out and tell us what his intentions are,” she said.

She further alleged that the UDM party, led by Mandera Senator Ali Roba, has been forcing itself on the people of Isiolo, despite their preference to remain in the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

“You can’t force us to be in UDM. You can’t impeach our governor because we don’t want to join your party,” she stated.

The Woman Rep claimed UDM was deeply involved in efforts to oust the Isiolo Governor, accusing the party of financing Members of County Assembly (MCAs) during their prolonged absence from the county in the lead-up to the failed impeachment motion.

“They were taking care of their bills, their upkeep, everything. That is shameful for a party that claims to have a national outlook,” she said.

She also said that UDM had threatened nominated MCAs who supported reconciliation with the governor, warning them with expulsion from the party.

In a direct appeal to President William Ruto, t

Mumina listed several state officers—whom she claimed are from Isiolo or the region and were appointed by the President—but are involved in partisan political activities.

Marsabit Governor Ali Mohamud Mohamed, Mandera Senator Ali Roba, Principal Secretary, Petroleum Mohamed Liban, Chairperson, National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEK) Rehema Jaldesa  and CEO, Sports Fund Noum Mohamed Ibrahim were adversely mentioned.

“These are people appointed by the President, and we thank him. But unfortunately, they are not doing their job. They are busy sponsoring impeachment efforts and political chaos in Isiolo,” she said.

She called on the Head of State to rein in the named officials, accusing them of neglecting their duties and engaging in divisive politics.

“We will not allow our people to be incited against each other. Isiolo is home to all 42 tribes. We will not fight because of a few individuals with tribal interests. We will maintain peace and follow the law,” she concluded.

The allegations come amid heightened political tensions in Isiolo following an unsuccessful attempt to impeach the county governor.
