Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Eng. Eric Mugaa has announced that the Mwache Dam Project in Kwale County is now 78 percent complete following an inspection by the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation.
In a statement, the CS said the committee, chaired by Marakwet East MP Hon. Bowen Kangogo, visited the project site to assess the progress of the transformative water infrastructure project.
The lawmakers were received by Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Project Manager Eng. Sam Alima before holding a detailed briefing session at the project’s boardroom in Fulugani Village.
“The Departmental Committee on Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation, led by the Chairperson, Hon. Bowen Kangogo, MP (Marakwet East), yesterday visited the Mwache Dam Project. The team was received by the Project Manager, Water Secretary Ministry Of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Eng Sam Alima,”Cs said in a statement shared on his social media.
According to the ministry, members of the committee were taken through key aspects of the project including land compensation, the Livelihood Restoration Programme, the lower check dam, the main dam and community infrastructure developments.
The committee also toured the construction site where it was established that the main dam is at 83 percent completion while the lower check dam stands at 86 percent. The clinic is at 82 percent completion, the police post at 65 percent and road works at 34 percent.
The ministry further noted that the three relocated schools — Mwache ECDE, Nungunu Primary School and Fulugani Primary School — are at 98 percent completion, while the community water supply component stands at 17 percent.
The inspection team included several Members of Parliament drawn from the Departmental Committee on Blue Economy, Water and Irrigation as well as officials from the Coast Water Works Development Agency led by CEO Hamoud Mguza.
