Kenyan social media personality Shes Kemunto has once again set timelines buzzing after revealing plans to launch a paid WhatsApp dating group, with different entry fees for men and women. The announcement, shared through her social media, quickly ignited mixed reactions ranging from curiosity to criticism.

According to Kemunto, the idea was inspired by the overwhelming number of messages she receives daily from men searching for partners and women looking for potential matches. Rather than letting the conversations remain scattered in her inbox, she says she decided to organise them into a structured dating space.

In her post, Kemunto explained that the WhatsApp group would be selective, with participants screened based on factors such as age, work status, financial stability, and overall lifestyle. She stated that she only needs between 20 and 30 men, each paying KSh 4,000, while women interested in joining would be charged KSh 2,000.

She further warned that the offer is time-sensitive, noting that future rounds would attract higher charges. “I’m not playing because I’m opening this tomorrow,” she wrote, adding humorously that the second round would cost even more.

The announcement immediately drew attention online, with some applauding her entrepreneurial creativity, calling it a smart way to monetise influence while solving a common dating challenge. Others questioned the fairness of charging different prices based on gender, while a section of netizens debated whether love and companionship should be monetised at all.

Despite the divided opinions, Kemunto remains unapologetic, positioning the group as a curated dating experience rather than a casual chat room. She emphasized that the goal is to connect like-minded individuals who are serious about finding meaningful partners, not just casual conversations.
