Victor Wanyama’s debut for Dunfermline Athletic FC took a dramatic turn when he was sent off in the closing stages of their 3-0 defeat to Ayr United at Somerset Park.
The former Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder made his first appearance as a second-half substitute, with Dunfermline trailing 1-0 after Connor McLennan’s first-half goal. However, things quickly went from bad to worse for the Kenyan.
Just four minutes after Wanyama’s introduction, Jamie Murphy extended Ayr’s lead to 2-0.
Then, with only six minutes left in the match, Wanyama was shown a red card for handling the ball after blocking a shot from Mark McKenzie and subsequently pulling the Ayr attacker to the ground.
Ayr compounded Dunfermline’s misery in stoppage time, with Ethan Walker scoring a third goal to seal a 3-0 victory.
The result was a significant one for Ayr, with manager Scott Brown earning a win over his former Celtic colleague Wanyama.
The Honest Men climbed to second place in the Scottish Championship standings with the victory.
