Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has defended his decision to back former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i, saying his support is rooted in competence and integrity rather than tribal ties.

Speaking during the Jubilee Party delegates’ meeting at Thika Green in Murang’a County, Uhuru lauded Matiang’i for his exemplary record in public service, describing him as a diligent and results-oriented leader.

“I’m supporting Matiang’i because of his capacity, not his tribe. In fact, I don’t even know his home; I’ve never been there, but he is a hardworking leader,” Uhuru said to applause from delegates.

The former Head of State also urged Jubilee members to foster tolerance and respect among leaders, cautioning against divisive politics within the Mount Kenya region.

“We won’t allow any Jubilee member to insult or demean other leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Kenya needs peace, not political hostility,” he stressed.

Uhuru reaffirmed that Jubilee Party will continue to champion national unity and fairness, noting that internal democracy will guide the party’s future direction. He assured members that the 2027 party nominations would be open, credible, and free from favoritism.

“There will be no automatic tickets in Jubilee. Every aspirant will have a fair chance,” he declared.

Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni echoed Uhuru’s remarks, confirming that the party leadership is united in its support for Dr. Matiang’i.

“We are fully behind Matiang’i. His leadership record speaks for itself, and Jubilee will rally around him as we rebuild our movement,” Kioni said.
