For those driving on Kiambu Road, it may be a smooth ride in the near future as the government signs off a plan to expand Muthaiga-Kiambu-Ndumberi into a dual carriage road.
The signing off of the plan by the relevant parties in the presence of Roads Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir took place on Tuesday and gives a green light for construction to commence.
The construction will be undertaken by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), with Stecol Corporation, which has undertaken various road projects in the country, being tasked with implementing it.
This stretch will be 23.5 kilometers long and will start from Muthaiga and then proceed to Ridgeways, Runda, Kiambu Town, and then Ndumberi.
For those who use this route and have to commute daily, this will be a welcome relief as it will ease their journey and reduce the amount of time spent driving.
This has been in the works for a while, and last year in December, President Ruto announced that construction will commence in 2026 after funds are allocated for it.
This will cost about KSh22 billion and will be a welcome development as it will ease transport in the area and will be a move in the right direction in enhancing transport in and around Nairobi and other towns in the area.
