The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) had rescheduled its ward-level grassroots elections in Kisii and Nandi counties after consulting members of the Seventh-day Adventist religious group, who would be observing the sacred Sabbath day that Saturday.
In a notice dated September 12 2026 by the UDA National Chair of the Elections Board, Anthony Mwaura, said the elections initially scheduled for Saturday, October 3, will now be held on Friday, October 2, 2026.
The polls will run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. across the affected wards.
In the statement, the party explained that the modification of time was made to accommodate the religious beliefs of those members of the two counties affiliated with seventh-day Adventist Christianity.
UDA is also allowing registration of candidates through its online registration system who desire to contest ward-level grassroots positions. From September 12, the registrations began while the portal is set to close by Sunday, September 27 at 5:00 pm.
Those who have applied as candidates will be checked for qualifications on Monday, September 28 just before the electoral contest.
The party further declared that registration fees for the ward-level grassroots elections are going to be.
UDA urged all Grassroots Polling Centre Officials intending to contest, party members and other stakeholders in Kisii and Nandi to take note of the revised election date and make the necessary arrangements.
The rescheduling has come at a time the presidential party is preparing to hold democratic grassroots elections aimed at strengthening its structures and participation at the ward level.
