The United Democratic Alliance has strongly condemned the killing of Rachel Wandeto Muthoni, describing the incident as a brutal act fueled by political intolerance and hatred.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary General, the ruling party said Wandeto was reportedly attacked in Wiki, Kasarani Sub-County, Nairobi, on May 16, 2026.
According to the statement, unknown assailants allegedly doused her with petrol and set her ablaze over a tattoo believed to be associated with support for President William Ruto.
“The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) condemns in the strongest and harshest terms the horrific and barbaric killing of Ms. Rachael Wandeto Muthoni, who was reportedly attacked in Wiki, Kasarani Sub-County, Nairobi, on 16th May 2026. Reports indicate that unknown assailants allegedly doused her with petrol and set her ablaze because of a tattoo associated with support for President William Ruto,” the statement read.
UDA termed the incident a chilling reminder of what it described as growing political intolerance, hate and extremism in parts of the country.
“This savage and cowardly act championed by the opposition is a chilling reminder of the dangerous levels of political intolerance, hatred and extremism being cultivated in parts of our society. No Kenyan should ever be hunted, attacked or murdered for exercising constitutional rights and political freedoms,” the party stated.
The party also accused opposition leaders of fueling division through reckless political rhetoric and incitement.
“UDA strongly condemns the growing nefarious sectarian rhetoric, political profiling and incitement that continue to poison public discourse and radicalise sections of the population. Any leader who deliberately sows seeds of hatred, division and political intolerance among citizens inevitably breeds criminality, violence and bloodshed,” the statement said.
The ruling party further warned that inflammatory political statements were threatening national unity and peaceful coexistence among Kenyans.
“The emerging culture of intolerance is being fueled by reckless and shameful utterances from the opposition, who label fellow Kenyans as traitors simply for holding divergent political views. Such dangerous rhetoric is increasingly threatening lives, eroding national unity and undermining peaceful coexistence among Kenyans,” UDA added.
The party called for swift and transparent investigations into the killing and urged security agencies to ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
“UDA demands swift, transparent and thorough investigations into this heinous crime and calls on security agencies to ensure that all perpetrators and accomplices are apprehended and brought to justice under the full force of the law,” the statement read.
