Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed reports linking his recent remarks to the 2007 post-election violence, saying his comments on the upcoming 2027 General Election were taken out of context.
Speaking on Monday during a press briefing, Gachagua clarified that he never intended to draw parallels between the 2027 polls and the deadly chaos that followed the disputed 2007 elections.
“I was misquoted. At no point did I suggest that Kenya is heading toward violence in 2027. My call was for credible, peaceful elections that reflect the will of the people,” Gachagua said.
The former DP further made a bold claim, alleging that should anything happen to him, President William Ruto should be held responsible.
“If anything happens to me, let it be clear — President Ruto should be held accountable,” Gachagua stated, raising eyebrows but stopping short of providing specific concerns or threats.
