In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Marsabit County have arrested two suspects found transporting 75 bales of bhang concealed inside a white van in the remote plains of the region.

The operation was carried out by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) following a tip-off from members of the public.

The law enforcement team intercepted the vehicle along a rugged path near the Kenyan-Ethiopian border.

Upon inspection, they discovered the vehicle’s rear section stuffed with dozens of tightly wrapped bales suspected to be cannabis sativa.

Preliminary investigations suggest the narcotics originated from Ethiopia and were en route to major urban centres in Kenya, possibly Nairobi, where street value estimates could exceed KSh 5 million.

Photos taken at the scene showed the van packed to capacity, with the contraband meticulously arranged to maximize space.

Authorities have since impounded the vehicle and transferred the suspects to Marsabit Police Station for processing and further interrogation.

They are expected to be arraigned in court on charges of drug trafficking and possession of narcotic substances.
