Jikaze Police Post officers together with Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) arrested three alleged poachers in possession of six pieces of elephant tusks in Laikipia County.

The suspects were appreheaded on Tuesday, June 23 2026 during a successful multi-agency undercover operation targeting illegal wildlife activities in the region.

According to the National Police Service, the suspects are currently held in custody awaiting trial, while the seized elephant tusks have been safely kept as exhibits to the cases.

The authorities further stated that poaching continues to be a major threat to Kenya’s wildlife heritage as it leads to loss of endangered species, disrupts the ecological balance, and ruins conservation efforts.

“Poaching poses a serious threat to Kenya’s wildlife heritage, decimating endangered species, disrupting ecosystems, and undermining vital conservation efforts that support biodiversity, tourism, and local livelihoods.” stated read

The NPS also reiterated its promise to continue collaboration with other agencies like the KWS in fighting against poaching and illegal trafficking of wildlife, at the same time protecting biodiversity, tourism, and livelihoods dependent on conservation.
