Kenyan content creator and comedian, Terrence Creative, has hit back at critics who criticized him for not buying his wife an expensive gift for her 38th birthday, after he shared a photo of his modest Toyota Vitz on social media.

The backlash came after Terrence surprised his wife with a special birthday celebration, but instead of purchasing an extravagant gift, he opted to showcase his humble achievements, which many saw as less than impressive. Terrence, however, took to his social media to defend his decision, offering an emotional and reflective response to the criticism.

In his post, Terrence shared his personal journey, revealing how he witnessed his wife face humiliation and hardship before they achieved any form of financial stability. He recalled the many years they spent using public transport, with some men insulting or even mistreating his wife in the process.

“I watched as men insulted my wife, some even laid hands on her while we struggled on public transport. I fought hard to protect her, but eventually, I got exhausted,” Terrence said in his post. “I prayed to God, asking for whatever car He could give us, just so we could avoid such humiliation. God heard my prayer, and He answered.”

Terrence went on to describe how they eventually bought their first car, a Nissan Note, which marked the beginning of their journey toward success. He emphasized that while flashy cars or extravagant gifts were not the hallmark of his success, it was the slow but steady progress they had made that truly mattered.

“My success isn’t defined by flashy cars or showing off. It’s about the quiet, consistent progress we’ve made, knowing that God is the one who provides for us,” he continued. “I’m not here to buy my wife a Range Rover just to trend on her birthday. That’s not our style. I don’t want to live under pressure; a good life is about moving at your own pace and being content with what you have.”

Terrence further explained that he wasn’t interested in competing with others or trying to impress people with material possessions. He proudly stated that the Toyota Vitz he posted was a reflection of where his capabilities had brought him at this point in his life, acknowledging that, with God’s guidance, they would continue to grow at their own pace.

“Here’s where my abilities have taken me so far. Little by little, God will continue to bless us in His own time,” he added.
