The SportsBiz Africa Golf Championship—fifth stop on the Sunshine Development Tour’s East Africa Swing—officially teed off at the prestigious Kigali Golf Resort & Villas.
The three-day, 54-hole stroke play tournament has attracted 121 professional and elite amateur golfers representing 16 countries across Africa, Europe, and North America.
Players will compete for a $25,000 (Ksh 3,237,500) prize purse, along with valuable Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.
Tournament Director David Kihara expressed confidence in the event’s preparations and course conditions.
“We are fully ready. The course is in exceptional shape—well-manicured fairways and fast greens, running around 11 on the stimpmeter,” he said.
“The rough is quite penal, so accuracy will be crucial. It’s a strong international field, with competitors from the UK, Canada, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa, and throughout East Africa. Weather conditions are ideal—dry, slightly windy, and no rain expected.”
Among the notable names in the field is Kenya’s Njoroge Kibugu, winner of the Ruiru leg of the Tour. Kibugu enters the tournament with strong form and high confidence as he eyes another podium finish.
