Kitengela Officer Commanding Police Station Joel Munyalo has warned bar owners against giving police officers on patrol Sh150 daily.
Munyalo asked, “They earn a salary to do their work. Why are they demanding money from bar owners?”
According to bar owners, police officers demand Sh150 from each of the 1,000 bars in Kitengela town and its surroundings.
Police collect Sh150,000 each day which amounts to Sh4,500,000 per month.
The bar owners also claimed the OCS is given 3,000 by every bar monthly, which amounts to Sh3,000,000.
The officers on patrol collect money from 5 pm to 11 pm every day to visit all 1,000 bars in the town, including Noonkopir and Kimalat.
The OCS, a former GSU officer, denied the claims, adding that he met bar owners and warned them not to give the police the money.
“How can I take their money and I am assisting them from the rogue officers who are forcefully demanding money from them? I have always warned them against giving the police money,” said the OCS.
The business community claimed that if they did not give the police money, they would be arrested and have their beers taken to the police station.

A former OCS, Jenniffer Munyaani Mutuku alias Bensouda, was transferred from Kitengela after bar owners alleged she was demanding Sh5,000 from bar owners monthly.
