President William Ruto has announced strengthened cooperation between Kenya and the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) following high-level talks held at State House Nairobi with IVI Director-General Jerome Kim.
In a statement shared on his official communication channels, the President said Kenya’s partnership with IVI has grown steadily over the past two decades, culminating in the country’s election to the vice-presidency of the IVI Global Council and subsequent representation on the Board of Trustees.
“Held talks with International Vaccine Institute (IVI) Director-General Jerome Kim at State House Nairobi. We have had a strong partnership with the IVI for over 20 years,” Ruto stated.
He added that the relationship has expanded into broader areas of health innovation, including vaccine research and development, clinical trials, manufacturing partnerships, regulatory strengthening, and staff capacity development.
According to the President, the collaboration is expected to deepen Kenya’s role in global health research and vaccine production ecosystems, positioning the country as a key regional hub.
The partnership will also involve closer engagement with local institutions, including the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Kenya Biovax Institute, and the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
Ruto noted that the strengthened ties will enhance Kenya’s scientific capacity while supporting ongoing efforts to improve health security and access to vaccines across the region.
