Siaya Governor James Orengo wrote a letter seeking a meeting with President William Ruto in April to discuss development plans for Siaya County, proposing to attend with other county leaders.
However, State House reportedly declined the request, citing Orengo’s persistent criticism of the president despite the cooperation between ODM and the Kenya Kwanza government.
Orengo, aligned with a faction within ODM critical of Ruto’s administration, has openly challenged the president’s policies.
Meanwhile, other Siaya leaders who are more supportive of the government, including Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, have been planning a meeting with President Ruto without Orengo’s involvement.
The governor has since appealed to ODM leader Raila Odinga to help resolve his differences with fellow county leaders.
