The South Sudan embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, has been closed over unpaid rent spanning several months.

According to media outlets in the President Salva Kiir Mayardit-led country, the embassy was closed on Friday, November 7, after defaulting on the $ 9,000 monthly rent payment for about a year, translating to approximately KSh 14 million.

One of the embassy staff said the Nairobi landlord came and locked the building. They asked the government to intervene.

It is reported that South Sudan’s ambassador to Kenya, Anthony Louis Kon, has since moved back to Juba.
