Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has unveiled the first batch of candidates to fly the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) flag in the upcoming by-elections scheduled for February 26, 2026.
Speaking during the issuance of the party’s first-ever nomination certificates on Monday evening, Sonko said the exercise marked a historic milestone for the party, which was fully registered in December last year.
The nominees include Hon. Isack Abduba Fayo for the Isiolo South parliamentary seat, George Musini Mukhwana for the West Kabras MCA seat in Malava, as well as Cosmas Njeru and Martin Mukundi, who will contest the Muminji and Evurore ward seats in Embu County, respectively.
Sonko said the party is positioning itself as an alternative political force anchored on issue-based and people-centred politics, with a strong focus on addressing the high cost of living, unemployment and other pressing socio-economic challenges facing Kenyans.
“I thank all Kenyans who have shown faith in our party since its full registration in December last year. This is just the beginning as we commit ourselves to a political movement that speaks directly to the needs of ordinary citizens,” he said.
The former governor was accompanied by NEDP Chairman Dr. John Nyamu, Secretary General Ben Mulwa and Executive Director Daniel Mokua during the ceremony.
Sonko described the nominations as the official launch of the party’s electoral journey, expressing confidence that NEDP candidates will resonate with voters in the forthcoming by-elections.
