The Social Health Authority (SHA) has moved to reassure Kenyans that its ongoing staff recruitment is being done fairly and openly.

The authority, created under the Social Health Insurance Act, is tasked with running three new health funds  the Primary Health Care Fund, the Social Health Insurance Fund, and the Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund.

SHA took over from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) in October 2024 after the launch of the TaifaCare system. Since then, thousands of Kenyans have sent in applications to join the new agency.

In a public statement, SHA thanked Kenyans who have shown interest, as well as former NHIF staff who helped smoothen the transition.

The current hiring exercise began on July 29, 2025, after a court threw out an earlier internal process. SHA says the recruitment is moving ahead “meticulously and transparently” and is guided by approved human resource rules to ensure only qualified candidates are picked.

“Our goal is to build a professional and accountable team that can deliver quality healthcare for all,” the authority noted.

SHA also appealed to journalists to keep their reporting accurate, saying this would help the public stay properly informed about the reforms.

The agency has urged patience as it puts together a team it believes will strengthen Kenya’s push for universal health coverage.
