The Social Health Authority (Social Health Authority) has announced new medical tariffs after reaching an agreement with Level 5 and Level 6 hospitals across the country.

In a statement, SHA CEO Mercy Mwangangi said the new rates will be rolled out within the next 21 days in all hospitals under the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF).

The changes come after talks between SHA and health facilities, aimed at agreeing on how much hospitals should be paid for treating public officers and their dependents.

The POMSF scheme covers government workers, teachers, and members of the disciplined forces, along with their families. It allows them to access inpatient, outpatient, and specialised treatment services.

The new tariffs are meant to match current hospital costs and make sure hospitals are fairly paid for the services they offer.

The authority explained that the rollout will be done step by step, depending on hospital level and the type of services offered. This will also affect how claims are submitted and processed in the system.

At the same time, SHA said it will now begin similar talks with Level 4 and Level 3 hospitals as part of the wider review.

Hospitals that have already agreed to the new rates will continue offering services under the updated terms, SHA said.

“Facilities that have accepted the negotiated tariffs will continue providing services to POMSF beneficiaries in line with the approved benefit package and agreed reimbursement terms,” the statement read.

SHA says the aim is to make the system smoother and ensure both hospitals and patients are not affected by delays or disagreements in payment.
