The Milimani Law Courts will today commence the hearing of a case involving controversial gospel artist Alex Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone, who is accused of fraudulently acquiring land worth Sh50 million in Nairobi’s affluent Karen estate.
Ringtone, who denied the charges in May, is alleged to have conspired with Alfred Juma Ayora to defraud businesswoman Teresiah Adhiambo of the 0.47-acre parcel situated in the leafy suburbs of Karen.
According to the charge sheet, the duo allegedly committed the offense on or before February 28, 2023. Ringtone reportedly laid claim to the land through adverse possession, asserting that he had occupied the property for more than 20 years.
His co-accused, Ayora, faces an additional charge of giving false information to public officers. He is alleged to have sworn a false affidavit claiming long-term residency on the disputed land—a move prosecutors say was intended to support the fraudulent takeover.
Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego is expected to preside over the matter as it proceeds for hearing today.
