A coordinated police operation in Naivasha town led to the arrest of seven suspects believed to be behind a series of robberies in the area, with officers recovering a Retay Falcon pistol used to instill fear in their victims.
Acting on intelligence, detectives from Naivasha Police Station intercepted a grey Mazda Demio, registration number KCS 384B, which the suspects were using to cruise through town with apparent impunity.
Their suspected crime spree came to an abrupt end when officers swooped in and arrested them without incident.
The suspects—Patrick Handi, 45; David Muchina, 34; Grace Wanjiru, 33; Erick Kabiru, 32; Hassan Jamal, 32; Christopher Kimani, 30; and Ronny Muturi, 30—were taken into custody after a quick search of their vehicle revealed a concealed Retay Falcon pistol hidden beneath the rear left seat.
Although the weapon is not capable of firing live ammunition, police say the gang used it to terrorize victims and carry out robberies by creating the illusion of deadly force. Victims, believing the pistol to be real, reportedly surrendered their valuables without resistance.
Police say the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and will be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
Authorities have lauded members of the public for the tip-off and urged continued vigilance in the fight against crime.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reminded citizens to report suspicious activity through the toll-free number 0800 722 203, assuring confidentiality and protection.
