Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has filed a censure motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his believed unbecoming conduct.
Mungatana filed the said motion with the Senate Speaker’s office and the Upper House will debate the deputy president’s conduct once the motion is tabled.
In the motion, Mungatana accused Gachagua of conducting himself in a manner that does not befit the status of the Office of the Deputy President.
For instance, the lawmaker accused the DP of inciting a section of Kenyans to disobey lawful directives by some county governments.
"Rigathi Gachagua on several occasions since his assumption to the Office of Deputy President, has made utterances, among others, regarding employment opportunities to Kenyans in the public service; allocation of resources to the devolved units; and incitement of a section of Kenyans to disobey lawful directives by some county governments," the motion reads in part.Mungatana added that Gachagua’s utterances have created and continue to heighten tension among different ethnic communities in Kenya and are against the national values and principles of governance espoused in Article 10(2) of the Constitution.
Unlike the impeachment motion that seeks to remove a leader from office, a censure motion involves members expressing their disapproval of the leader’s behavior.
