Janice Turner, the mother of Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston, was legally convicted to five years in federal jail for her role in a high-profile $1 million wire fraud scheme. As a companion to the jail term, Turner, 63, will be under three years of supervised probation upon discharge.
According to federal prosecutors, Turner and her son, Sean Kingston, were part of a group scheme in which they defrauded various luxury sellers by falsely convincing them that they had wire-paid for the goods. The scam enabled them to buy high-end items, including high-priced vehicles and expensive jewelry, without actually making the payments.
The officials shared that the mother-son duo went on to victimize businesses with promises of payment never made. Having secured the goods—anything from luxury vehicles to designer jewelry—they would go AWOL without payment.
Turner’s was previously found guilty of bank fraud in 2006, which helped guide the court’s decision here to exact the five-year penalty.Although Janice Turner has been sentenced now, Sean Kingston will be sentenced on the 28th of August, and everyone is eager to know how much the artist will be held accountable in the case.
