Roseline Odhiambo Odede, the chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), is dead.

Confirming the news, the commission’s vice chairperson, Raymond Nyeris, said Odede breathed her last on Friday, January 3, after a short illness.

"During this period of mourning, we send our message of condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends and all those who knew Roseline. May the memories of her exceptional service bring comfort and strength in this difficult time," said Nyeris in a statement adding that her demise is a big blow to the commission and the nation at large.

Odede was appointed to the position by former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

As an advocate of the High Court, she previously served as the vice-chairperson of the Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board.
