Samburu County has been identified as the most affected region by rampant banditry and highway robbery, due to its locality with Marsabit, Isiolo, Turkana and Baringo Counties being its immediate neighbors.

Speaking during the 16th edition of Jukwaa La Usalama held in Maralal town on Friday, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen attributed the insecurity to Samburu’s geographical position bordering volatile counties.

The CS who was also accompanied by the interior principal secretary Raymond Omollo revealed that the county was the most hit the banditry menace. “Samburu is most notorious County in terms of highway robbery. Users of Maralal-Baragoi road are among the most affected.” said Murkomen.

The meeting brought together residents, local leaders, and law enforcement agencies to deliberate on pressing security challenges in the region.

Residents decried poor mobile network coverage with the CS saying the government would partner with network providers to resolve the challenges and smoothen security operations in the area.

The Jukwaa La Usalama forum is part of the government’s ongoing community engagement program aimed at fostering collaboration between citizens and security agencies to tackle insecurity.
