Eastleigh building collapse

The National Construction Authority (NCA) has disclosed the names of the contractor, architect and structural engineer listed in its records for the building that collapsed along 9th Street in Eastleigh, Nairobi, on Friday, October 23.

In a statement released on Friday, the authority identified Stromax Holdings E.A Limited as the contractor, Arch. Emmanuel Mwangi Maina as the project architect and Eng. Joseph Muturi Mugu as the structural engineer.

The NCA said the building was registered on July 30, 2025, as a proposed development on Land Reference Number 36/11/40 in Eastleigh, within Kamukunji Sub-County, Nairobi County.

The developer listed in the authority’s records was 9th Street Plaza Limited, while the project registration number was 53128815710410.

The disclosure comes as rescue teams respond to the collapse and authorities begin preliminary investigations into the incident.

What did the NCA say about the collapsed Eatleigh building?

The authority said the affected site had been cordoned off, with a multi-agency team coordinating rescue efforts and conducting preliminary investigations.

It emphasised that protecting the public was the immediate priority and urged residents to keep away from the scene and all restricted areas to avoid interfering with emergency operations.

The NCA added that updates on the rescue operation, the status of the site and further action by the multi-agency team would be shared in due course.

According to the NCA, Stromax Holdings E.A Limited was the contractor listed for the project under registration number 41669/B/0618.

Arch. Emmanuel Mwangi Maina was recorded as the project architect, with registration number A2045, while Eng. Joseph Muturi Mugu was listed as the structural engineer under registration number A2750.

The authority also identified 9th Street Plaza Limited as the developer on record.

However, the statement did not establish what caused the building to collapse or indicate that any of the named parties had been found responsible. The listed details reflect the authority’s project records as investigations continue.

The NCA is a state corporation established under the National Construction Authority Act No. 41 of 2011, with a mandate to oversee and coordinate the development of Kenya’s construction industry.
