A Mombasa-based lawyer, Sheila Nkatha, has been charged with stealing Ksh. 17 million from one of her clients.
Nkatha appeared before Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Rita Orare, where she pleaded not guilty to charges of theft and the issuance of a bad cheque.
The alleged offenses are said to have occurred between February 17, 2024, and July 23, 2024, at Mvita in Mombasa County.
According to the prosecution, Nkatha misappropriated the funds from her client during this period.
Prosecution Counsel Yassir Mohamed argued that the bond terms for the accused should reflect the gravity of the crime, considering the substantial amount of money involved.
The court has set a date for ruling on the bond application, with a decision expected on November 22, 2024. Until then, Nkatha remains in custody as the legal process continues.
