Nairobi residents can expect faster and closer access to county services after Governor Johnson Sakaja announced a major administrative shake-up that will see the city reorganised into six boroughs.
The county has also reshuffled sub-county and ward administrators in what officials describe as a move to bring government closer to the people and eliminate long-standing bureaucratic delays that often frustrate city dwellers.
“Our goal is to streamline operations, cut unnecessary bottlenecks, and make Nairobi a working city where residents can access services efficiently and effectively,” Sakaja said while confirming the changes.
A borough is a town district with its own administrative centre, allowing all major services to be coordinated locally. Nairobi previously relied on 17 sub-counties and their wards—a system many residents say slowed down service delivery because of poor coordination between departments.
Under the new structure, each borough will have a dedicated manager who will serve as the direct link between the community and county operations.
