Moi International Airport (MIA) celebrated a major milestone today as RwandAir officially relaunched direct services to Mombasa, ending a six-year hiatus and reaffirming East Africa’s growing aviation connectivity.
The colourful reception was led by KAA Chairman Hon. Caleb Kositany, who welcomed the carrier’s return as a strong vote of confidence in MIA and Kenya’s broader airport network.
“RwandAir’s return is not just about an additional route; it is a reaffirmation of partnership, shared vision and opportunity. Mombasa’s airports are ready to support growth in tourism, trade and investment, and KAA will continue to provide the safe, efficient and world-class services our partners expect,” Kositany said.
The ceremony was attended by senior government and diplomatic representatives, including H.E. Ernest Rwamucyo, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Kenya, who emphasised the importance of strengthened air links in deepening bilateral cooperation and people-to-people ties.
Kenya’s High Commissioner to Rwanda, H.E. Janet Mwawasi Oben, also attended, highlighting the mutual benefits of improved connectivity for commerce and tourism.
From the airline, Chief Commercial Officer Fouad Caunhye reiterated RwandAir’s commitment to offering convenient and reliable services for travellers between the two countries.
The event also brought together KAA Regional Airport Manager for the Coast Region, Abel Gogo, alongside airport stakeholders and partners, all united in welcoming the airline back and pledging continued collaboration to improve passenger experience and route development.
