President William Ruto has underscored Kenya’s commitment to leading the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti, describing it as a demonstration of solidarity with the Caribbean nation’s people in their quest for peace and stability.

Speaking on Monday, September 22, 2025, during a high-level side event at the United Nations in New York, the Kenyan Head of State said Haiti’s history reflects resilience and courage, but also a painful legacy of instability that has undermined its promise of freedom.

“The history of Haiti reflects both the heights of human courage and the depths of adversity. It is the story of a people who rose from the shackles of slavery to claim independence and inspire movements for freedom across the globe,” President Ruto noted.

He lamented that for decades, the people of Haiti have appealed for global solidarity but have often been met with indifference or inadequate support.

Kenya, he said, responded positively when Haitian authorities sought international help, building on its long record of participating in peace support operations.

“Drawing on our decades of peace support operations around the world, we stepped up, offered to lead the international effort and committed to deploy Kenyan police officers to help tackle the runaway menace of gang violence in Port-au-Prince and its environs,” he said.
