President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to environmental conservation by spearheading initiatives to transition away from traditional polluting fuels such as firewood and charcoal.

Speaking at Jamhuri High School in Nairobi, where he officially launched the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Programme for public learning institutions, the President emphasized the urgency of adopting clean energy solutions.

“We are limiting the consumption of traditional polluting fuel like firewood and charcoal by accelerating access to clean cooking,” President Ruto said. “This move will cut carbon emissions, check the damage to our environment, and make our dream to grow 15 billion trees by 2032 a reality.”

The LPG initiative aims to reduce reliance on biomass fuels, which are not only detrimental to the environment but also pose significant health risks to users. \

By introducing clean cooking solutions in public schools, the government seeks to instill environmentally conscious habits among students while contributing to its broader sustainability goals.

The President’s ambitious plan aligns with Kenya’s larger environmental conservation agenda, which includes the goal of planting 15 billion trees over the next decade.

This target is seen as a critical step toward combating deforestation, mitigating climate change, and fostering a green economy.
