President William Ruto has held separate discussions with senior executives from Google and American Tower Corporation as Kenya steps up efforts to expand digital infrastructure and strengthen the country’s digital economy.
Ruto met Google’s Managing Director for Africa Alex Okosi on the sidelines of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Business Summit in Nairobi, where they discussed the expansion of Kenya’s digital infrastructure and opportunities to scale digital trade and innovation.
The President said the discussions also focused on creating more opportunities for young people as Kenya seeks to position technology and digital services as key drivers of economic growth.
“With 4,542 towers across Kenya, American Tower Corporation is an important partner in our efforts to build the infrastructure required to facilitate trade, connect communities and unlock greater economic opportunities,” Statement read.
Ruto also held talks with American Tower Corporation Senior Director for Public Affairs and Regulatory in Africa Deean Fontaine on plans to expand digital connectivity and infrastructure across the country.

According to the President, American Tower Corporation currently operates 4,542 towers across Kenya, making the company an important partner in the government’s efforts to improve connectivity.
The discussions come as Kenya seeks to strengthen its digital ecosystem and expand access to infrastructure that supports businesses, communities and young people.
Ruto said the government would continue working with global technology and infrastructure companies to expand connectivity and position Kenya as a leading digital economy in Africa.
