Salama Bus attacked in Moyale.

Gunmen opened fire on a Salama Bus en route to Nairobi from Moyale on Monday night.

The attack, which occurred in the Sololo area in Moyale, Marsabit County, left one passenger dead with four others nursing serious bullet wounds.

The bus had about 40 passengers at the time of the attack. Those injured were rushed to Sololo Mission Hospital for treatment.

The attackers escaped from the scene immediately after the ambush, and their motive was not immediately identified.

Recounting the attack, one survivor said the gang targeted the driver of the bus, forcing him to stop.

However, despite the bullets deflating the front tyre, the brave driver managed to drive off from the danger zone.

“The bullets damaged the windshield while its front tyre was deflated but he managed to drive off from a danger zone up to where he stopped and sought help for the victims,” the police said.

Confirming the incident, Eastern police boss Charles Naibei said multi-agency teams are on the ground investigating the incident and pursuing the gang.

Notably, Sololo is near the Kenya-Ethiopia border and has of late been facing insecurity.
