On Sunday President William Ruto held bilateral talks with Ilham Aliyev, the president of the republic of Azerbaijan in Baku as the two nations seek to deepen diplomatic, political, and economic ties.
Speaking at the Baku Olympic Stadium, on the sidelines of the World Urban Forum, President Ruto said “we are exploring strategic areas of partnership to unlock the vast potential for cooperation between our two nations and expand opportunities for our people.” said Ruto
He noted that Kenya and Azerbaijan have excellent diplomatic relations built on vision and the spirit of cooperation for economic growth and development.
However, President Ruto said both Countries are actively exploring strategic areas of partnerships to present new opportunities for sustainable economic development.
The discussions included an agreement on partnerships in the oil and gas industry, investments to promote the country affordable housing programme as well as renewable energy partnerships towards realizing the country 10000megawatt target.
The two leaders also explored Azerbaijan’s interest in Kenya’s envisaged oil refinery project, which is intended to serve the entire East African region and bolster energy security in the region.
He also noted that in addition the discussions focused on greater trade and investment prospects between the two countries through the search for larger export markets for Kenyan tea, horticultural products and other agricultural commodities.
