Deputy President Proffesor Kithure Kindiki has announced the commencement of construction works on the Kithaga-Matiri-Kamarandi road in Tharaka South, Tharaka Nithi County.
Speaking on Monday, September 21, 2026, during a meeting with residents of Chiakariga Ward at Matiri ma Arume, Kindiki said the road would be extended in future through Kamanyaki, Kanthakame, Ndaruni, Kirukuma and Makomango before ending at Mureo Mburaga.
The Deputy President also said the government had awarded a Sh1.1 billion contract to rehabilitate and tarmac the 36-kilometre Chiakariga-Marimanti-Gatunga road and roads within Chiakariga Town.
The projects are part of a Sh20 billion government budget allocated to construct 250 kilometres of new tarmac roads across Tharaka, Maara and Chuka Igamba Ng’ombe constituencies.
Kindiki said the government was also expanding rural electrification in the region, while construction of eight fresh produce markets was underway.
The Deputy President used the meeting to update residents on the progress of National Government projects and listen to local concerns.
He was accompanied by Governor Muthomi Njuki, Senator Mwenda Gataya, Woman Representative Susan Mwindu and MPs Gitonga Murugara, Patrick Munene and Mpuru Aburi, alongside grassroots leaders, professionals and elders.
