President William Ruto has urged Kenyans to embrace tax compliance, calling it a partnership that drives nation-building and supports public services.
Speaking during the 2025 Taxpayers’ Day Awards Dinner, the President praised the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for implementing innovative measures to make tax payment easier and more efficient.
He highlighted the rollout of the electronic rental income tax system, which is expected to generate KSh80 billion annually, up from the current KSh14 billion, representing a significant increase in government revenue.
To simplify compliance further, Ruto noted, KRA services are now accessible via WhatsApp and USSD, making it easier than ever for every Kenyan to fulfil their civic duty.
“Every innovation, every simplification, builds trust and strengthens our partnership with taxpayers,” he said.
The President also acknowledged top taxpayers, saying their contributions help the government meet national obligations and secure a better future for all Kenyans. “Nation-building depends on citizens who contribute and institutions that serve with integrity,” he added.
Ruto called on KRA to continue innovating, serving taxpayers efficiently, and assured that the government will provide the necessary policies and resources to expand the tax base and encourage voluntary compliance.
