The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) raided public offices and arrested four government’s employees for demanding and supposedly accepting bribes from members of the public.

In Kwale county, two Kenya Power security personnel, Joseph Dena and Fredrick Odhiambo, were taken into custody by EACC agents after reportedly asking a complainant for Sh100, 000 as a form of ‘protection’.

According to EACC allegation, the two security personnel, falsely accused the complainant of electricity theft and then demanded money to ‘help secure his freedom’ and to prevent prosecution by the law enforcement.

They were arrested while allegedly receiving Sh50,000. They were later released on a cash bail of Sh20,000 each as investigations continue.

Later, the accused were set free on a cash bail of KSh20,000 each pending police inquiries. They were released with this amount of bail money as a way to ensure their presence at the hearing once the investigation is carried out.

In Bungoma, EACC arrested two Law Compliance and Enforcement officers from the Bungoma County Government, Victoria Mala Nafula and Elizabeth Nafuna Lukhale. The suspects were accused for demanding a bribe of a cyber cafe operator to allow her to continue her business without a permit, while threatening to shut it down if the bribe was not paid.
The suspects were also released on a cash bail of Sh20,000 each.

EACC has urged members of the public to report cases of bribery and other acts of corruption involving public officials.

For members of the public who are witnesses to, or victims of, bribery or other corrupt practices by public officials, EACC has repeatedly called on them to disclose such cases.
