President William Ruto has described his engagements in Washington, D.C., as a historic turning point in Kenya–United States relations, praising President Donald J.
Trump’s administration for what he termed renewed clarity, cooperation and commitment to a strengthened bilateral partnership.
In a statement issued at the conclusion of Kenya’s official visit, President Ruto expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the Government and the people of Kenya for the hospitality extended to his delegation during the high-level meetings in the US capital.
“Our engagements were not only productive, they equally marked a watershed moment in the long, strategic friendship between our two nations,” Ruto said, noting that both sides demonstrated a clear readiness to chart a bold and mutually beneficial course for the future.
President Ruto highlighted major gains in health cooperation, saying the renewed partnership with the United States will support disease surveillance, expand primary healthcare, and improve access to cutting-edge medical technologies.
He said the commitments made will “save lives, uplift communities, and accelerate Kenya’s journey toward universal health coverage,” one of his administration’s top development priorities.
On trade and investment, the President said discussions centred on unlocking new value chains, expanding market access, and supporting African manufacturing.
He noted that the US has expressed willingness to invest in Kenya’s digital economy, infrastructure development and green transition — investments he said would create jobs and drive the country’s long-term economic transformation.
“These steps will help expand market access, support African manufacturing, and create jobs for our young people,” he said, calling the renewed cooperation “a new era of shared prosperity.”
President Ruto also commended the United States’ longstanding support for stability in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region. He noted that talks on counter-terrorism, maritime security, and conflict resolution reaffirmed the importance of Kenya–US cooperation in safeguarding regional peace.
“When Kenya and the United States act together, the region becomes more secure, stable, and prosperous,” he said.
Ruto praised President Trump’s “personal leadership” in revitalising bilateral ties and said Kenya is committed to translating the commitments made in Washington into tangible results for citizens.
“We are committed to expanding this partnership into one of the most consequential and impactful on the continent,” he said.
