Ruto Celebrates Gains in HIV/AIDS Fight, Calls for Strengthened Multilateralism

President William Ruto has highlighted the crucial role of multilateralism in the global fight against HIV and Aids.

Speaking at a high-level meeting titled “Multilateralism Works: Leadership and Sustaining the HIV Response to 2030 and Beyond,” held in New York, President Ruto emphasized the transformative power of international cooperation in addressing the epidemic.

“As we celebrate the gains made in combating HIV and Aids, we must also acknowledge the power of multilateralism in fostering transformative global partnerships,” said President Ruto.

He noted that effective multilateralism has been central to Kenya’s ability to engage with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and Aids (UNAIDS), enhancing the country’s efforts in resource mobilization, advocating for the rights of people living with the infection, and providing inclusive support.

Kenya, currently the chair of the UNAIDS Board, has been a key player in steering the global HIV response, ensuring that the needs of the most vulnerable are prioritized in policy and funding discussions.

President Ruto underscored the importance of continuing this collaborative approach as the world works toward achieving the 2030 targets for eradicating the virus.

The President also commended UNAIDS for its role in advocating for human rights, reducing stigma, and ensuring that people living with HIV have access to treatment and care.

He called on the global community to strengthen partnerships and keep the momentum in the fight against HIV and Aids.

The meeting brought together global leaders, health experts, and advocates to discuss the future of the HIV response, with a focus on leadership, innovation, and sustained multilateral cooperation.
