President William Ruto has urged African nations and the global community to strengthen cooperation in addressing the worsening climate crisis, warning that isolation and broken commitments will derail efforts to safeguard the planet’s future.
Speaking during the opening session of the Second Africa Climate Summit in Addis Ababa, President Ruto said Africa has moved from being seen as a victim of climate change to a hub of solutions.
He emphasized that the continent is already demonstrating leadership through investments in green infrastructure, climate-smart agriculture, landscape restoration, waste management, and innovative technologies.
“In Nairobi two years ago, we declared that Africa is not just a partner but a power in the emerging global order,” Ruto stated. “Today, our potential is recognized, our voice is heard, and our solutions are being deployed.”
The Head of State, however, expressed concern over growing tendencies of self-interest and short-term gains among nations, warning that such approaches undermine international solidarity at a time when the crisis demands bold collaboration.
“The truth is undeniable: no nation can solve this crisis alone. Only through bold, united, and sustained collaboration can we avert climate catastrophe,” Ruto stressed.
