President William Ruto has announced that 20 per cent of all housing units under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme will be reserved for members of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), National Police Service, National Youth Service (NYS), and the Kenya Prisons Service.

Speaking on Tuesday during the official opening of the Central Bank of Kenya Police Housing Complex in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, President Ruto said the move is aimed at promoting dignity and home ownership among disciplined service members.

“We will reserve 20 per cent of our housing units under the Affordable Housing Programme for members of the Kenya Defence Forces, the National Police Service, the National Youth Service and the Kenya Prisons Service.

These disciplined officers will benefit from single-digit interest rate credit facilities — as low as 3 per cent a year — to grow the number of home-owners ,” Ruto said.

He added, “The newly opened complex comprises 200 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom fully furnished apartments designated for police officers attached to the Central Bank of Kenya,”

The project, the president said, is part of a wider initiative to improve the welfare and working conditions of security personnel across the country.

“This facility is not just about housing; it’s a statement that our men and women in uniform deserve decent, safe, and dignified living spaces,” he added.

The president reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding access to affordable housing, with a deliberate focus on key service sectors such as security.

He said the government is working to ensure more officers across the country benefit from similar housing projects under the Affordable Housing Programme.
