Construction of the Mtwapa Bridge along the busy Mombasa–Mtwapa–Kilifi (A7) Road is gathering pace, with the deployment of 75 workers to speed up delivery.
Ministry of roads says that works are progressing on schedule as contractors maintain round-the-clock activity at the site.
The bridge is a key transport link serving Mombasa County and the wider Coast region.
One of the project’s major milestones has already been achieved with the successful stabilization of the pier foundation piles, a critical phase that ensures the bridge’s long-term structural strength and safety.
“This key bridge underscores the Government’s commitment to delivering a seamlessly connected Kenya through sustained investment in the expansion and modernization of road infrastructure to meet emerging needs and increasing traffic demand,” the ministry said in an update.
Once completed, the new bridge will operate alongside the existing Mtwapa Bridge, which will be retained and converted into a service road.
This dual-bridge is expected to ease congestion on the A7 corridor, alongside improving traffic flow during peak hours.
It will also enhance safety for motorists, pedestrians and local road users.
The Mtwapa Bridge project is part of the government’s broader program to expand and modernise road infrastructure in response to rising traffic volumes and growing urbanisation along the Coast.
The A7 corridor is a vital artery linking Mombasa to Kilifi and other northern coastal towns, and plays a central role in tourism, trade and everyday commuting.
