The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has invited former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua to record a statement regarding his assassination attempts allegations.
Speaking on Sunday, August 30, after being discharged from The Karen Hospital, Gachagua claimed he survived two assassination attempts before being impeached.
In one first instance, the former DP claimed, while on a Nyanza tour on August 30, undercover security agents entered his room, bugged it and one of them tried to poison his food, but he detected it and escaped the scheme.
Further, on September 3, Gachagua claimed another team from the National Intelligence Service came to Nyeri and tried to poison food that was meant for him and the Kikuyu council of elders.
In a statement, DCI said these are serious allegations and cannot be taken lightly.
"In light of the seriousness of this matter, we kindly request your presence on 22nd October 2024 at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters, Mazingira Complex-Kiambu Road, to formally record your statement to enable prompt and thorough investigations into the matter," DCI said in a statement.
The investigation agency said Gachagua’s statement will be a crucial component of their probe.
