People’s Party leader Ndindi Nyoro has condemned the attack on Siaya Governor James Orengo in Migori County, describing the incident as “totally unacceptable”.
Nyoro spoke after a vehicle belonging to Orengo was allegedly sprayed with live bullets and later torched in Awendo during his political activities on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Sunday morning, the Kiharu MP accused the government and its sympathisers of being behind the violence witnessed against Kenyans.
“This is totally unacceptable. People’s Party strongly condemn the violence we continue to witness meted on Kenyans by the Government and sympathisers of Government,” Nyoro said.
He questioned the motive behind the attack.
“How does it benefit anyone to do this kind of diabolical and obnoxious act?” he posed.
Nyoro also criticised the management of security in the country, saying the government had failed to protect Kenyans.
“The kind of incompetence we see in the management of our Country’s security is terrible,” he said.
The People’s Party leader went on to sympathise with Orengo following the incident.
“Pole sana Governor James Orengo. Very very unfortunate,” Nyoro said.
The attack came after Orengo’s political rally in Migori Town was disrupted after tear gas was lobbed at the gathering, forcing the governor and his team to leave the area.
A vehicle in his convoy was later set ablaze in Awendo.
Orengo claimed that his car was sprayed with live bullets before being torched.
“They swore we’d never step foot in Migori. They failed,” Orengo said.
“To the cowards who sprayed live bullets into my car and torched it in Awendo to hide your crimes: your desperate violence only proves your fear,” he added.
Orengo said the attack would not stop him or the Linda Mwananchi movement.
“You can’t burn down a movement, and you will never intimidate me,” he said.
