Residents of Fafi Constituency in Garissa County have voiced strong support for the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), as the nationwide public participation exercise on the proposed Constitution of Kenya Amendment Bill 2025 enters its third day.
The Bill seeks to anchor the NG-CDF in the Constitution, solidifying its role in grassroots development. During the forum held in Fafi, locals lauded the fund’s impact, particularly in improving infrastructure and advancing education through bursary programs for vulnerable students.
According to residents, the NG-CDF has been instrumental in transforming the region by decentralizing development and creating opportunities in sectors that had long been underserved.“The bursary support has enabled many children from disadvantaged backgrounds to stay in school. It is a lifeline for our community,” said one resident during the forum.
The public participation exercise, which has been running for four days across the country, will conclude on Thursday. Feedback gathered during the sessions will inform parliamentary deliberations on the proposed constitutional amendment.
If passed, the amendment will embed the NG-CDF into the law, potentially shielding it from legal uncertainties that have surrounded its operations in the past.
