Referees Cheruiyot, Yiembe Appointed for CAF Champions League Final

Top Kenyan match officials Gilbert Cheruiyot and Stephen Yiembe have once again been entrusted with high-profile assignments, this time for the 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final.

The eagerly anticipated clash will feature Egypt’s Pyramids FC taking on South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.

Cheruiyot has been designated as the First Assistant Referee, while Yiembe will serve as the Second Assistant Referee for the continental showpiece.

Both referees are seasoned on the international stage, having officiated at major CAF and FIFA tournaments, including FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Olympics, the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), AFCON qualifiers, and several previous CAF Champions League matches.

In a further testament to his expertise, Stephen Yiembe has also been selected to officiate at the FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13, 2025.

The CAF Champions League final is scheduled for Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, with kick-off slated for 8:00 p.m. EAT.
