Rebecca Miano, the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, has indicated that the government is set to collaborate with the organizers of the annual Nairobi Standard Chartered Marathon to extend the event’s reach worldwide and to promote sports tourism in Kenya.
During the 22nd edition of the marathon held at Uhuru Gardens, Miano informed that the government is eager to work with the private sector and other stakeholders in order to have Kenya reap more benefits from sports tourism.
“The government is well aware of the huge potential that sports tourism holds and is ready to engage with partners in order to have the Nairobi Marathon become a global attraction,” she said.
About 32,000 people, among them professional athletes, amateurs, and fitness enthusiasts, from all over the country and even beyond, participated in this year’s marathon.
One of the largest road races in Kenya, the Nairobi Standard Chartered Marathon, remains a vehicle through which the country can nurture local talent and also realize a positive contribution from the tourism and hospitality sectors.
