Azimio leader Raila Odinga is set to face two opponents in the upcoming Mjadala Afrika Leadership debate for the African Union Commission chairperson position.
The debate, which will be televised, is slated for December 13, 2024, at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Raila will face off against his top rival, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf from Djibouti and Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato.
The debate is expected to set the pace for the elections in February 2025 to replace the outgoing Moussa Faki.
As earlier reported, Raila’s bid for the AUC chairmanship received a significant boost last week.
This is after Mauritius’s candidate in the race, Anil Kumarsingh Gayan, dropped out and the country’s Prime Minister, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, announced they are now backing Raila.
Pauline Njoroge, a key member of Raila’s campaign team, said Ramgoolam conveyed his country’s decision during a phone call with President William Ruto.
