Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has been laid to rest at his father’s home at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.

The solemn burial ceremony, which was graced by President William Ruto among other high-ranking dignitaries, preceded a state funeral he was accorded with full military honours.

Before his burial, Raila was given a 17-gun salute by the Kenya Defence Forces.

The body was then lowered into the grave, but one thing stood out; his iconic fly-whisk and signature hat were placed on the coffin.

The former ODM leader’s fly whisk and his iconic Jaramogi hat are powerful symbols of his political legacy and cultural heritage, no doubt.

During several public appearances, Raila used the two to emphasise points during his enthusiastic speeches, mourn and rally crowds.

Raila Junior, the former prime minister’s son, has also been seen donning these iconic items during Raila’s funeral services, signalling a potential succession and continuation of the Odinga political dynasty.
